+PLUS qualifies as Finalists for Mock Firms 2011 Competition

A team of collegiate students from the Danish Institute for Study Abroad based in Copenhagen, Denmark have qualified to represent their program at the 2011 Mock Firms Student Design Competitions May 5-7 in Chicago. “+Plus” is the name these students have adopted who are majoring in architecture. This is the first year that the Danish Institute for Study Abroad will be participating in this international competition. Student teams called “firms” from around the United States and around the world will submit building design projects for a skyscraper designated for Stockholm, Sweden. Each design project will be reviewed by some of the industry’s top professionals based in Chicago. Competitors will be aiming for top honors in the following categories: Top Construction Firm, Top Engineering Firm, Top Marketing firm, Leadership in Organization, Top Architectural Design Firm, Top U.S. and Top European Firm, and Overall Top Mock Firm which will receive a $1,000 prize additionally. Additional activities available during this 3-day event include tours of Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Amazing Architecture Race.

i’ve reached my upload limit for the next two days, so this should hold until the flood comes again.
on another note, i was hit rather hard by a bout of healthy romanticism, that for some reason, i’ve successfully contained for the past few years. rationality is fun and all but europe isn’t the place to be looking at a beautifully sculpted world through logistical eyes. maybe its the severe procrastination of photo-processing that’s funneled six months worth of the unimaginable into an overwhelming week of remembering and reminiscing and looking forward, but it also can’t hurt that i’ve been listening to the likes of broken social scene (particularly ‘lover’s spit’ on infinite repeat) more recently.
sorry to stuff a traveling blog with perhaps overly-sentimental thoughts about the world and everything, but i can’t help but feel that sharing my experience in europe has to be honest and (perhaps, even) personally invasive beyond the point of postcard worthy photographs. hopefully the conglomeration of thoughts, music, inspirations, and ambiguous references points to an image of grant (for both you and me) that is a more accurate reflection of how transformative and incredibly surreal every day in copenhagen is.
thanks for listening. hope all is overwhelmingly full of life.

this pace of life is incredibly wonderful, but endlessly maddening at the same time. i am one for reflection, and there isn’t much of a home for that this year. i am still adjusting and recognizing the perspectival shifts of the fowler dynasty happening in me today, leaving me completely behind in…

lesserthings:

i did a really horrible job at fooling myself into thinking that i shook myself of my romanticist notions.

but, in the end, i don’t think i ever wanted to lose them.

because all i want is the moon upon a stick

just to see what it is

just to see what gives

quite nice, really.
